Swine Flu

Recently, swine flu or called A(H1N1) flu have been spread widely all over the world especially in countries such as Mexico, the United States, Canada and Spain. Early morning the heading news of the newspaper , that is "Swine flu have been spread in Asia and Malaysia is taking earlier precautions to defend from this disease". (Sorry for those who can't read Chinese)










Many people have been stop eating pork because of this disease. In fact, swine flu viruses are not transmitted by food. It is safe as long as you handle and cook the pork properly. Besides that, cooking the pork under the temperature of 70ºC and above can kill swine flu viruses.

I guessed that there are a lot of people still doubt on the terms of "swine flu". Swine flu is actually a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A strains of the influenza virus. It often causes high flu irruptions in pigs, however with low death rates. H1N1 viruses have been one of the recent isolated influenza viruses from pigs among the four main sub-types of virus. Swine flu can be spread through the close contact with the infected pigs or contaminated areas. It also can spread human-to-human.

Symptoms of swine flu

- Fever

- Lethargy

- Runny nose

- Cough

- Sore throat

- Lack of appetite

- Vomiting and diarrhea in some cases.


Preventions

1. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

2. Wash hands after contact with common surfaces and utensils.

3. Covering your nose and mouth with a disposable tissue or handkerchief when you cough or sneeze. After using, dispose the tissue into dustbin.

4. Avoid close contact with sick people.

5. To wash hand properly, remove your jewelery,rinse your hand under warm water and apply 3-5ml of soap.Then, rub hands together for about 10-15 seconds and scrub thumbs, under nails, between fingers, the back of fingers and hands.Rinse and dry your hand. Use the same towel to turn off the tap.

6. If you are sick, wear a mask when you are in crowded and public areas.
